Monday
The doctor is worried about the rash on his body. It has not disappeared so she has raised his Predniselone to 4ml twice a day. We will have to keep an eye on it. She also mentioned his low potassium level.
Tuesday - Thursday
All is going well and, as usual, we go in every day.
I spoke to the dietitian about Jake's preference for Powerade (powder, heavily diluted in boiled water). She said it's good that he is drinking, but that the electrolytes in it will be affecting his test results so she wants me to reduce his consumption.
Friday
As usual we arrived at around 8am to get his blood collected before we saw the doc.
Doctor Tiedemann is happy with his progress. The test result came back that he no longer has any of his own blood cells (which is what we were hoping for). She also said that we will be able to start reducing his steroids next Tuesday. All went well, and we came home after the Gancyclovir.
---
I got a call from Doctor Tiedemann this arvo and was told that one of Jakes culture tests has come back positive (in small amounts) for (I think it's called) CMV. It is a virus that was dormant in his blood and has reactivated. It's good that they caught it early because apparently this can lead to pneumonia. Anyway she wants us to be admitted tomorrow. She could not give us an end date, but hopefully around a week as he needs to have the Gancyclovir twice a day so travelling is just not an option, especially as even once a day was wearing him out!
