We had minor dramas this week, since we got home, as Kai had what we suspected were cold sores. After consulting 3 different doctors, the result was that Kai had to stay at Dianne's because he could not come near Jake and me (as his primary care giver!) I spoke to the doc on Tuesday and she said Kai could come home, and that if Jake catches anything we will deal with it then. I can't wait to see him - he is coming home on Thursday.
The old adage is "you dont know what you have until it's gone". Well, that really applies with not having Kai around. The house has been so quiet and we all miss Kai very much. Even Jake remenisces about the things he did with Kai ;)
1st December 2009 Tuesday
At the meeting today we found that the virus was a staph variant which is very common and lives on the skin.
Dr Tiedemann was not impressed that the nurses on level 8 did not even look at his history! Apparently she had written an order for a transfusion of immunoglobulin (which takes 5 hours) so we now have to come back tomorrow to get it done. They also did not do any cultures for his HHV6 or CMV viruses to see whether they were negative, to see whether we could stop the gancyclovir. Now those tests will have to wait until next week.
Unfortunately, due to the new virus, Jake's healing has been delayed, which is going to mean that he might not be able to go to Christmas with the family. It's going to be a close call. I will be checking again with Doc Tiedemann next Tuesday.
